A new start

Reflecting on eight years with Studio Wim and looking ahead to the next adventure: Driver.

March 2024

So long, Studio Wim

When I kicked off Studio Wim in 2016, I told myself this was temporary, and I’d change things up in a few years. Those few years became a few more, and now it’s finally time to shake things up. I’m immensely proud of the work we’ve put out. Highlights include crafting the first and second cinema teasers for Picl, the Dutch arthouse streaming platform, and collaborating in various projects with the Stedelijk Museum. These projects ranged from visual essays for STUDIO i to exhibition trailers and year-end films, all leading up to a major highlight: the identity and animation for the exhibition "Chagall, Picasso, Mondrian, and Others: Migrant Artists in Paris”. Collaborating with Studio Polat on the exhibition piece “Rather Turk than Pope” was a great experience, as was creating the trailer for Westergas’ rebranding, which led to a ever ongoing collaboration with illustrator Andreas Samuelsson. My work with UN Migration, promoting campaigns for International Women’s Day and Migrants Day, has been particularly fulfilling. Additionally, a years-long collaboration with Afonso Gonsalves brought creative projects to life for clients like Triodos, Free Press Unlimited, Rijksmuseum Twenthe, and NFDI4Biodiversity.

Even though I run a solo studio, I usually collaborate with others, and none of the projects mentioned above would have been possible without the illustrators, designers, composers, sound designers, and animators whose names are listed throughout this site. Let's not forget the wonderful clients who have trusted me along the way. A huge thank you to all of them, and I’m looking forward to more collaborative adventures!

A new chapter

I dawned on me that Studio Wim has run its course for quite a few reasons. I needed to step back a bit, not have my name plastered on the door. This way, it opens up space for more people to join and make it grow.

My ideals have taken shape over the years. I’ve always been into projects with museums, NGOs, and brands that want to leave the world better than they found it. I realized this is what I wanted to focus on. I want my work to contribute, to support causes and people who are pushing the world forward. That’s where “Driver” comes in, steering my new path with purpose.

Products

As I move towards this new direction, I've been reflecting on how to best serve people's needs. My experience has shown me that project budgets are often limited and the output isn't always utilized to its fullest potential. The absence of a clear plan can lead to wasted resources and chaos.

This realization brought me to the concept of products: structured processes accompanied by a package of deliverables. Whether it's through strategy and planning, producing a single video or a series, or setting clients up with a creator kit for multiple years. Moreover, I'm introducing a subscription model offering ongoing motion design support for a monthly fee.

The Studio Wim website will stay live for the foreseeable future, with a redirect to guide people to the new site. I'm excited to see where this new journey takes me!
